Rebecca Romijn may be famed for her beauty—after all, this is a woman who has graced the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue, not to mention countless Victoria's Secret catalogs—but right now her body image is not the healthiest. "I can't move anymore," she says. "I'm a beached whale!"

'Stunning Californian actress Rebecca Romijn is frank about what constitutes beauty. Despite her jaw-dropping good looks, the statuesque, 35-year-old, former model states at a press conference that it is in fact America Ferrera, the lead actress of Ugly Betty - not herself - who epitomises true beauty as the "all-American gal".

"She's the pinnacle of American beauty... That's really what American beauty has become," Romijn offers.

What a difference a year makes! A little less than 12 months ago Rebecca Romijn was single, unemployed, and undisputedly 100 percent female. Now, as 2007 draws to a close, she is happily married, working steadily (on one of TVs biggest hits, no less), and, brace yourself, the unlikely poster child for the international transgender community. All things considered, the winsome 35-year-old model-turned-actress says she is having the time of her life.

While we may not buy the idea that a fashion model’s life is a difficult one, there’s no doubt that transitioning from the runway can be tricky. Many look to acting as the next career step, but few pull it off. That’s why we couldn’t be happier for Rebecca Romijn, the former megamodel, who has demonstrated acting chops as flawless as her genes. It didn’t happen overnight: Her role as Mystique in the X-Men films, while appealing to a large audience, didn’t quite allow her to spread her wings as a thespian, and Pepper Dennis—her first sitcom—was quickly canceled.

05-2007: The Advocate

Like most sensible people in the United States, actress Rebecca Romijn - the 34-year-old former Victoria’s Secret model who became a major movie icon as the wicked, blue-skinned Mystique in the X-Men film trilogy—became addicted to Ugly Betty, the hit comedy from ABC about an unfashionable but loving and sensible young Latina woman who finds herself working as the assistant to the editor in chief at a viper pit of a New York City fashion magazine called Mode.

06-2007: Marie Claire

Rebecca Romijn, casually attired in a black knee-length sweater, black leggings, and black boots, her hair up in a ponytail, is loping around the Raleigh Studios set of the miraculous little hit show Ugly Betty, a comedy about life at a fashion magazine. Describing the episode she's working on, in which her character, a glam transgender woman named Alexis, finally gets some sugar from a hot Brazilian named Rodrigo, she grows giddy, and I think I know why.
